More detail
The Tesla Universal Wall Connector is currently one of the most highly recommended chargers by electricians for any EV owner. It has a native NACS (Tesla) plug, but physically docks into a J1772 adapter. When you push a button on the handle, it pulls the adapter out with it, allowing you to charge a Ford, Hyundai, or Chevy.
If you own an older Tesla Gen 3 Wall Connector, you can purchase an aftermarket adapter (like the Lectron or TeslaTap) for about $150 to charge a non-Tesla vehicle.
Given that almost all major automakers (Ford, GM, Rivian, Hyundai, etc.) are switching to the Tesla NACS charging port in 2025, installing a Tesla Wall Connector now is an excellent way to future-proof your garage.
